Hello all Bobby Darin fans, Bobby’s music is great and will continue to be forever.
Julie - 2010-12-31 07:16:03
I enjoyed listening to Bobby as a young girl. I now can understand his talent and place in the world more fully. I believe his uniqueness and genius went under-appreciated. I appreciate him and feel for the personal sadness which he had to endure. I only hope we can see him again in Heaven.
Allen Bercume - 2010-12-30 23:28:50
Bobby Darin to me was a Better Showman and a Better Entertainer than Frank Sinatra, this is my Opinon, I am purchasing a C.d next week of Bobby Darins top hit CD called
The Legendary Bobby Darin. This C.D sounds like a winner.
I think Bobby Darin should be presented with the Kennedy Honor.
michael day - 2010-12-30 17:23:38
Hi, i am starting as a Bobby Darin tribute from JAN 2011. I have been a performer for 20 years and always sang his songs as parts of others shows. The time has come to dedicate a heartfelt tribute to the man and his music. It will never die and I will always be a fan. Michael from the UK
Alvin Kitzmann - 2010-12-30 01:23:42
If I were a Carpenter... one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Thank you, Bobby. Everything you did was quality.
shirley engstrom - 2010-12-29 23:04:56
I loved listening to BD over the years. I thought Sandra Dee was so beautiful and sweet. I am a true fan.
For months, before I went to sleep, I played Simple Song of Freedom which was on you tube but taken off.
Maybe I can find a recording and I can focus on Bobby’s skill when singing, it is so intelligently shaped. But I am so sad that this song was removed from You tube because Bobby smiled in that song about putting the people who wanted to have war on a shelf to fight it out themselves, and said that we the people want to sing. That smile was so genuine. I do not want to do without it. Can you help get it back?
Vincent Toscano - 2010-12-29 16:07:47
I really enjoyed Boby’s songs and I thought he and Sandra Dee were really great people. I enjoyed Sandra as well. I always had a crush on her from the monemt I saw her. Great Family and wish you, Dodd, and your family the very best.
Steve - 2010-12-29 11:54:59
I was lucky enough to get a 3 disc box set of Sunday Night at the London Palladium, it is full of great acts and stars of yesteryear including Bobby Darin, marvelous!

Finally viewed "beyond The Sea" with my husband. Kevin portrayed the great Bobby Darin so well. I’m hoping to pick up Dodd’s book, "Dream Lover."
Jo Ann Smalley Herrman - 2010-12-28 01:51:49
Bobby will always be my main man. I’ll never forget him.
Dr.Sa’ad F.H..AL-Salihi - 2010-12-27 11:56:18
A great history for the American nation, A symbol of love, humanity & a great performer.
Bruce McNeely - 2010-12-26 17:35:10
My love and I watched "Beyond the Sea" yesterday - what a great film and a great legacy! Mack the Knife was one of my faves as a kid, and it’s always my song of choice when I’m forced to do Karaoke.

I just thought I’d add a suggestion to the Music section of Pop Culture References. Roger McGuinn of the Byrds (another personal musical hero of mine) put out a live disc of his solo act (Live From Mars) a few years back, which has a retrospective commentary about his career. This includes a story and song from Roger’s time working in the Brill Building with Bobby Darin; "Beach Ball", a song he recorded at Bobby’s urging, with Bobby sitting in on drums.

I saw roger in concert a couple of years ago, and he still mentions Bobby Darin in his commentary. Roger credits Bobby as a mentor, especially regarding a professional attitude and stage presence.
Dave S. - 2010-12-26 00:12:47
Mr. Darin was one of the few talents that ever were who you would call a "complete entertainer"....and could he ever sing a song. Wow!!
Roberto Murta - 2010-12-25 11:39:00
I remember Bobby Darin very much, as one of the most important singers - and actors - worldwide and also in my country, Brazil, by the time I was a teen ager, in the 1950’s. He’s really a legendary memory of the teen agers romantic days in the so called "Golden Years". He’s, great, wonderful, sensational!
Braulio - 2010-12-23 22:50:39
As a kid growing up in NYC, his many songs made those days for me. Always, always remembered. May your showmanship and personality live on for ever.
Arnold Kreuger - 2010-12-23 17:10:27
Tears in my eyes. What a performer !

VC - 2010-12-21 17:32:22
My wife and I just watched the 2004 movie "Beyond the Sea" and was impressed with Bobby Darin’s background beginning with his illness as a child to becoming one of the great performers in the 50s and 60s. His voice and music lives on as his legacy.
Judy McRae - 2010-12-21 11:36:44
Rembering Bobby on the 37th Anniversary of his passing and the wonderful array of music he left for us all to enjoy.Always in my Prayers and Masses especially this Christmas. Wonderful Memories. Judy

Bobby Darin’s incredible life and unequaled talent are an inspiration to those of us who love and admire him. Rest in peace dear Bobby. You have’t been forgotten
Rita Pavone - 2010-12-20 20:14:58
Rest in peace my hero
kathy - 2010-12-20 19:44:47
Bobby Darin had a voice whether he was singing talking or omg, laughing. He was a one of a kind!! I listen to him all the time,No one can ever come close to the vast talent. So young,So sad...Kathy
Su Cote - 2010-12-20 18:46:06
He lives on with us in his music, his movies and photos. I like to believe that he is watching over all of us and rejoicing that his memory is safe with us and being shared with the generations to come. He was an amazing gift to each and every one of us. If he were here now I’m sure that he would be thrilled with the technological advances and be coming up with new and exciting music for us.
linda p - 2010-12-20 17:51:33
Bobby was the greatest----his sweet voice rings through my life every day. One can only imagine what he could have done if he had lived a normalmlife span. Rest in peace, Sweet Bobby
Sean Patrick McMullin - 2010-12-20 03:57:09
He is the king of all that is good and great. We are forever in his debt for all that he gave us his passion still sustains us
Debbie Froese - 2010-12-17 19:33:31
I am the same age as Dodd Darin. I remember Bobby Darin and admired him when I was young. I remember watching him on TV and thinking how smooth he was. And really cute! I didn’t, however, know that much about his life. I watched Kevin Spacey’s Beyond The Sea, because I love Kevin Spacey and think he’s just as smooth as Bobby in a lot of ways. OK, I love Kevin. I have a 14 yr old daughter who loves music, so I asked her to watch BTS with me. She’s totally enamored with Bobby now, as I am. And guess what? She has Bobby Darin on her iPod now! That is truly how timeless Bobby is. I love him.
IONA LAURA PERRY - 2010-12-16 21:50:14
I love to hear him sing
slugirl64 - 2010-12-14 05:28:16
I still feel sad that Bobby’s music and artistry was not with us for a longer time. Returning to his music is a happy experience. I figure he would have rivalled Neil Diamond in lasting popularity and music quality..and i’m a big ND fan for about 48 years. Love Bobby!
Mary Ellen Parisian - 2010-12-14 02:59:31
You are not forgotten and your music will live on.
Sergi Insomnia - 2010-12-11 22:32:30
His geniality will never be forgotten
José L. Pulido - 2010-12-11 21:23:39
Saw the picture of his life (TV feature), and transpot me to my youth. Bobby was a part of it. He was a great singer and composer as good actor. Unfortunely, he pass away so young. But his pictures and music stay today with us. Thanks Bobby.
Leila Metti - 2010-12-10 18:45:34

Age 67 - Dear Bobby, thanks for the memories your songs evoke (especially Nature Boy, More, Simple Song of Freedom). You are NOT forgotten.
carolyn tate - 2010-12-06 18:50:17
I am now at the great age of 62, having lived through the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Roxy Music etc. etc. but on my computer I keep coming back to THE Bobby Darin - I don’t quite know why, especially as I normally hate that sort of crooning style - he was special. (If I were a carpenter will probably live on in me forever)
Carolyn DeMoss - 2010-12-06 02:25:17
Bobby’s music was so special.....I grew up in his era in the 50s and 60s. I couldn’t remember when he passed. I’m sorry that the world has been deprived of whatever music he would have continued to produce had he lived into old age.
Shari Bennett - 2010-12-04 04:03:41
I’m watching a PBS special about Folk Music. Many years ago I heard a song about "We The People". I could never find out who sang it until tonite. It was Bobby in a break from his standard music. It is a wonderful song still very appropriate today.
Thanks and love to the singer of my heart.
Tom Wilson - 2010-12-03 21:29:38
The music lives on. My son, a freshman in high school, is singing Mac the Knife or That’s All at the school cabaret night. Pretty cool.
mitchell torok - 2010-12-02 17:03:58
i met bobby on a dick clark sta night show from hollywood when he was introducing mack the knife...we talked some...i asked him why he departed from what he was doing ( splish splash et.) he toldme he wanted toreach outto a bigger audience...iwas plugging my country/pop hit caribbean at the time on the jamie guyden label...just caught him doing ’we dont want no war’and would like to find it or hear it again somewhere...mitchell torok
Andrew Merey - 2010-11-30 19:07:51
Just to let you know, my latest column, Looking Back, is about singers making that big jump to motion pictures, highlighting
the fact that Bobby Darin was second to none in this category.
Also, already slated for publication in 2011 by American Music Magazine is my feature length article Bobby Darin; An Appreciation.

Memories are made of these... They last beyond Life itself!
For memories are made of legends,... and Bobby is one of the
best that ever were in the music world!... His life’s short
span outlasted life itself with it’s quality!... I sill
recall his songs beyond my youth, and after my adulthood!

I love Bobby and his music I have all his books and DVD’s. I wish there were more Icould get. I also have all his movies. I’d like the dvd’s of his TV series when he filled in for the Dean Martin Show. Cheers. All my best to Dodd and his family.
shirley engstrom - 2010-11-24 20:58:41
I like Bobby as much as a song writer as a performer and just listening to him with accoustic guitar, singing Simple Song of Freedom, he puts that song across so well. No wonder Sammy Davis Jr. Thought so well of him. I remember hearing that he had died in 1973 and it was news that hurt. I am glad to find him here on you tube.
I hope Dodd Darin has a long, happy and peaceful life. I loved Bobby Darin. S

I was only five when bobby passed but I grew up with his music and all the oldies i’m so glad to see you gave your father’s fans a site to come to. I have collected all his music just wondering if you will ever sell autographed pictures or even unautographed? Would be great to have for my collection. Thank you
Cris Owen - 2010-11-10 20:08:58
I was so sad that Bobby died so young. I know he had health issues from an early age. He was such a dynamic singer. I wish the radio stations would play his music more today to show young people true music. I loved Mack the Knife, Beyond the Sea. God bless him.
joe - 2010-11-07 16:27:49
Was just listening to bobby’s music and realized how much he is missed
John - 2010-11-06 04:29:07

Bob C Bleins - 2010-11-05 17:24:46
I just watch Beyond The Sea, and as I watched it, it brought back the memories of listening to Bobby’s great songs. It brought up special memories in my own life and even cryed watching his show. Dream Lover was one of my wife and I’s song. Sandra, you are a special woman, and I loved your movies. You rock. I know your Son is proud of you. God Bless you and yours.

one of the regrets in my life is that I never met this man or saw him perform
MaryLou Kovalik - 2010-10-29 01:05:06
I have adored this man since I was around 12 years old, always my favorite of the "teen idols" that I remember from way back then. I’m 62 now, and still play his music all the time. Since I’ve discovered YouTube, I’m addicted to whatever I can find to listen to and watch. I know in my heart that his music will go on a long time, each generation will "discover" what true talent sounds and looks like. I wish I had gotten to see him perform. He was the very best
Jan Olsson - 2010-10-28 14:04:11

Bobby Darin was the love of my life. He was sexy and so good looking. I just don’t know what people are thinking when they consider him average looking. He was adorable. He would have been everything I ever wanted. His stage presents was great. So smooth and suave. When I see his videos, I just wish I could hold him in my arms. Lucky Sandra!!

I don’t think there is anyone who "loved" Bobby more than I did;) When I was a kid, I had the privilege of seeing him at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel in St. Louis, Mo.

I played his album, Live at the Copa, so much that my brother broke it!!

I also loved Sandra, of course. What a beautiful girl!!

My Bobby! I still miss him.

You can listen to his music now and feel like no time has passed.....I am so touched by listening I can’t express it into words. This man’s passion will never die.

Mary Trnka - 2010-10-10 15:53:19
A great artist and entertainer, taken away from the world at too young an age. I don’t think I ever heard a song from him that I did not like his styling. "If I Were a Carpenter" and "Beyond the Sea" are two of my favorites.
Leora Svihovec - 2010-10-07 20:43:52
I am years younger than Sandra Dee so I was quite young when his music was the thing but as a teenager I enjoyed her movies and the ones they did together. I loved their story and some of the songs. They lived a hard life but made a great couple. The year they got divorced I married at a young age. I see they had a very handsome and wonderful son. Best to you and your family. Enjoy the wonderful memories
Tony Assande - 2010-10-07 19:29:09
Bobby Darin is one of my favorite performers and personalities. "I am" is one of his own compositions which touched me but "Rainin’" is the one I listen to most of all.
Jerry Weaver - 2010-10-06 09:13:28
Bobby Darin - "Dream Lover" my favorite of all time.
Peter Magurean III - 2010-10-05 21:38:17
I recall from my boyhood enjoying the fresh quality of Bobby’s talent which has been memorialized by Kevin Spacey’s "Beyond the Sea". Bobby was a great entertainer who will for always be a major part of the American social and musical culture!

I have always loved Bobby’s version of Mack the Knife. The warmth of his voice and his sense of timing & rhythm are incredible. Bobby Darin’s version is truly the definitive version of Mack!
Cris Coleman - 2010-10-03 15:20:31
I never heard a song Bobby Darin sang that I didn’t like, although "Mack the Knife" wasn’t my favorite. Among my favorites was "Things". Does anyone know who the female backup singers were for this song? Thanks
Phil Edwards (Mr) - 2010-10-03 00:46:05
Bobby Darin was a truly great entertainer, tragically taken away at such a young age. I’m too young to have been a part of his era, but I do immensely enjoy his music. He sang so smoothly and enunciated the lyrics of his songs with a clarity, and verve which is a joy to listen to. May his music and his memory live on forever.

He passed away far too young. I can even remember where I was when I heard about his death. I was so upset.
Miss Ellie - 2010-09-13 01:36:25
Talent is talent no matter when it is lost or when it is found... Bobby Darin was a man first.. a singer second. May his voice live on, may his gift of life over shadow his death, may those who knew & loved him continue to share his gift with the world.
Michael Periandri - 2010-09-13 01:22:45

I can only imagine the wonderful things you would have done had God given you a little more time. Your music will be with us forever! We miss you Bobby!
Su Cote - 2010-09-10 01:07:53
He was such a huge talent. I was 26 when we lost Bobby. I was in Philadelphia at the train station when I heard the news. I felt so sad not just for his loss, but that Dodd had lost his father. I always thought that he and Sandra should have stayed together. Perhaps they are together at last.
I loved his music as much as his movies.
I miss him still. He died too young.
Joan Kilburn - 2010-09-09 04:17:16
My beautiful girlfriends and I met him and Sandy after Dodd was born at a hotel on Mannheim, near O’Hare airport. Wow, that was awesome. After we said hello, they said, we must go and check on our son. That must have been in the early 60s. I still love this precious couple, and Dodd is awesome. God bless him
Brenda De Marco - 2010-09-09 02:37:49
I’m back again for like the 20th time to read up on the most incredible singer of all time.
His talent cannot be forgotten....Not by me.
I will always remember as a kid (12), sitting on the floor in front of the T.V. watching Bobby Darin’s last show, and hearing only a short time later he had died.
One of tha saddest memories I carry with me.
I thought of Sandra Dee at that moment and wondered if love can ever really die.
Dodd is wonderful for sharing their own personal lives with us.
Thank you Dodd.
Many, many, hugs to Bobby’s family and
fellow Bobby Darin fans!
We are one!

I’m so blessed to have found this website, and read about Bobby’s life and watch numerous clips. Over the last year, I have been dealing with the after affects of chemotherapy and the nightmare of coming off pain killers. Bobby’s attitude towards living brought me out of a slump and tired existance. I pray Dodd Darin gets to read this and respond. Dodd, your parents were and still are the best! I’m waiting to receive your book and the movie made by Keven Spacey. Again, Bobby Darin teaches us how to enjoy life to the fullest each second of each day. God Bless.

Have always liked Bobby Darin. What a performer!! Act, dance, and sing. One of a kind. He was taken from us much too young. I have listened to Bobby for over 60 years and will continue to enjoy his music, shows and movies until I meet him again...he can then serenade me in person. Love ya Bobby!
donna - 2010-09-01 22:14:43

Phyllis Ansel - 2010-09-01 07:28:34
I still listen to Bobby’s recordings and have been doing so for the past 50 years. I am truly glad he was blessed with a wonderful, devoted son and so many agents and colleagues that cared deeply about him and believed in his talents, like the amazing, beautiful soul, Harriet Wasser, who worked tirelessly for his career and bringing his music to us. And in turn, Bobby respected them and their abilities and was their friend, as well.
kenny lucas - 2010-08-27 11:18:06
Taken away much too soon, so many great songs he recorded

Franca Barton - 2010-08-25 00:43:59
Bobby Darin still sets a standard for excellence in performance, which is, simply, putting out his all for the enjoyment of anyone in earshot, then and now. Thank goodness for his life, his recordings, and his legacy.
janie dermody - 2010-08-23 15:46:35
Has anyone considered turning Bobby Darin’s life story into a play like the one done on the Four Season’s that was so successful? The music and story would fit just as well as their’s did.
Joan Johnson - 2010-08-22 01:11:20
I really love his music and his movies

I’v always been a fan of Bobby Darin’s. Over the year’s I’ve realized we are all on borrowed time. As a child, I had rheumatic heart and was limited to what I could do. His music and voice have etched a place in my heart forever. I LOVE YOU BOBBY!!!
Mary Jean - 2010-08-09 23:21:16
He was the best! I could hear him sing all day. As a matter of fact, I’m playing his Greatest Hits CD right now. Have always been a fan of his, and Sandra Dee’s as wall -- always will be. Such a shock to lose them both way before their time.
Dalma - 2010-08-09 17:37:10
I really love his voice and I’m really sorry he was so ill since he was a child. He was so talented!

Bobby is one of my all time favorites. It’s a shame his life was cut short. He would have surpassed Sinatra, Martin, any of them.

There is no doubt and never has been, had Bobby Darin lived he would have been the only entertainer in history that would be as big or world renown, in talent, style, and charisma to Frank Sinatra..He had one big advantage over Frank, he could write music and songs

Hi everyone -- I’m in desperate need to find a version of That’s All that is slow, we want it for our wedding song. All I can find is a fast version. There is a slow version by Frank Sinatra, but I really want it by Bobby Darin. anyone know where I can get such a version? Thanks!
francisco jose - 2010-07-27 22:38:59
si el talento,la interpretacion,y un sentido especial del amor se pueden dar en un artista, este debe llamarse Bobby Darin.

Ed Lawlor - 2010-07-26 22:57:51
Hi everyone, I’m Ed from Suffolk in England and have been a great fan since I was a teenager in late 50’s and early 60’s. I am now 67 years of age and still constantly play Bobby’s music in the car whilst on my travels (and I sing a lot to them also). Wow, what a performer and so versatile in the delivery of different styles. From slow but heart rending ballads like You’ll never know and You made me love you through to swinging styles of Mack the knife and Cant take my eyes off you.... and of course one of my favourites Beyond the sea.I could go on but I guess I have run out of room. Respects to Bobby’s family - you must be very, very proud. Ed
Carre - 2010-07-25 15:18:42
I saw Bobby Darin at the Copacabana in NYC in 1964 after my senior prom -- probably the best show I’ve ever seen. Both are gone but my memory of it, after all these years, is one of my best.

One of a kind. "Beyond the Sea" very good movie.
Val Smith - 2010-07-23 21:02:47
Just watched the movie, "Beyond the Sea". It was bitter sweet. I very much enjoyed Bobby Darin’s singing and his "hip" style and was shocked when he passed away so young. It really hits home because I have a 42 year old son who still seems very young to me and I can’t imagine loosing him at 37. Bless Dodd and the rest of Bobby’s family and close friends.
Hazel - 2010-07-23 14:47:38
I am 69 years old and Bobby Darin has been one of my favorites since he started. I still listen to his music. Beyond the Sea is my favorite.

Dodd... I met your dad at a party at the International Hotel, in Elvis suite, the night before Bobby was opening which we all attended, there has never been a better entertainer....ever
Mareike Wendler - 2010-07-17 16:25:51
My brother always listen to Bob Dylans music, but its not so my thing. I like the music of the 50s and 60 , too and I know Bobby Darin since almost three month now. OK I knew him before but just a few songs like "Beyond the Sea"(which I really liked before). Three month ago I watched the movie "Beyond the Sea" by Kevin Spacey. I felt in love with the music and bought 5 albums of Bobby Darin. I love the sound of him. So sad that I wasn’t born when he lived. I think my room would have been covered with posters of him
Susan Whipple - 2010-07-17 08:59:46

Robin J. - 2010-07-14 16:50:28
Fell totally in love with his personality and his music and his performances when he was the summer replacement for dean martin’s show in the 60’s...and havent stopped loving him since. what a dynamic entertainer ..and the epitome of cool. so sad that he was taken son young...he happened to pass on the same say my dad did..two men who touched my life in different ways left on the same day, when i was too young to lose either as well. in any event, im so glad he got the well deserved and long over due lifetime achievement award..what he did in his short life is AMAZING!!!! he definitely made the best of the time he had here. so happy for his loving son and his darling granddaughters that he never got to meet. so nice they will have film and records to know who he was and how spectacular a force he was!!!

Bobby Darin was one of a handful of truly great performers. He had innate musicianship that was so instinctual. His rhythm was impeccable and his interpretations were right on. He was dynamite.
Marilyn Derrick brown - 2010-07-12 04:31:30
I just watched the movie about Bobby Darin’s life. He was so multi-talented. I love his big band songs, He was another Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra - beautiful voice. It is a shame he died so young, but he did a lot in those few years.

As an author and a former "on air" disc jockey, I know that "Dream Lover" by Bobby Darin helped define my teen years that led to my relationship with and understanding of American pop music. The song made falling in love the greatest of experiences fpr millions of teenagers. Bobby Darin truly is one of the great contributors to Amercian culture. The "Baby Boomers" are defined through songs like "Dream Lover".

John A. Dondero - 2010-06-23 02:51:40
I never tire of hearing his rendition of "Clementine" and "Artificial Flowers" When I think of the fame that eluded him because of his death at 37. I feel that knowing he would have a short life madehim more ambitious and dynamic because he had to get as much living as he could in to too brief career.
Neil ’Ruby’ Minsha - 2010-06-23 02:19:58
A big band singer with raw natural talent. Arguably as cool a cat as Sinatra. Much more than a lounge act. A once in a lifetime sizzler!

Bobby Darin was one of the greatest vocalist, next to Jackie "Mr. Excitement" Wilson my former boss. It was always an honor as well pleasure, to talk turkey with Bobby and he was indeed a wonderful husband to Sandra and father to his son Dodd.

I sincerely had hoped, that Bobby would had been with us today. He would really set the world on fire with this special brand of talent. I do miss, and still love him like a brother................

Happy birthday Bobby Darin!!! I am 16 years old and Bobby Darin is my favorite singer, my grandparents were about 37 when he died, and were fans of his. I've been listening to his songs all day today to celebrate!! Even though Bobby Darin died before I was born, he still lives on in my house, I don't think I go a day without listening to a song or watching a video. He was absolutely amazing, and in my mind the best singer in the world!! Happy birthday Bobby!! May your talent be remembered forever

Hi to Dodd and Bobby's site manager/s.

I'm thinking of you on what would have been Bobby's 74th birthday. I'm reflecting on how chuffed he'd have been for receiving the Lifetime Grammy. He'd also have been so proud of Dodd and the family and your ongoing love and tributes, and grateful for the wonderful ways in which you continue to honour his memory, as a musician, friend, dad.

Tonight, I listened to the CD of the gig he recorded with the Flamingo orchestra in November 1963* - I'm s muso (have been for 38 of my 46 years) and the biggest buzz I got from a singer was seeing clips from the "Aces Back to Back" DVD on cable TV at the end of 2005 - while I knew who he was, that was my introduction to Bobby, and I set about getting some CDs and DVDs - I'm glad I found him/his music.

Thanks again for the website......thinking of you, Dodd, on your dad's birthday - Cheers and God bless...
Springwood, NSW, Australia

*PS That gig was recorded on either November 9th or 11th in 1963 - I was born on November 11th, 1963 so, regarding when he did the gig, it's either very significant or downright serendipidous!!

Dodd, your dad is a legend. I have all his lps and oft times listen to them. His music and persona lifts my heart when I hear him sing and reminsce about those halycon days gone by. A great performer, musician and, I'm sure, father. I know he and Sandra had trials and tribulations throughtout their lives, as we all do but both of them stand out as good people and talented entertainers when we look back on them. Both are truly missed. God Bless. Gary

I was very touched by the movie "Beyond the Sea" with Kevin and Kate but I didn't realize Bobby died so young. Being a musician myself, I will always love and respect Bobby's musical talents and his heartfelt frustration toward the "Establishment" reflected in his song "Simple Song of Freedom" which I now love to sing. RIP brother...

I knew about Bobby Darin when I watched his movie, and I know he was a special person who lived for doing his dreams a great reality. He was a honest, friendly, kindly, intelligent and a great artist. Thank you for doing that movie.

He was a wonderful singer. I really didn't realize all his other accomplishments until I read this. I heard "Mack the Knife" on the True Oldies Channel (106.1 New Orleans) a little while ago. That is what had me reminisicing and caused me to search for info on him on the internet. God bless you, Dodd. My best wishes. Thanks for keeping your dad's legacy alive.

I really believe that Bobby Darrin was the best male singer. He put more "of himself" into a song than anyone. I always sang along with him .... he felt like a brother. I really miss him.

One of my earliest memories was hearing Bobby's songs on our record player and my mom singing along with "Mack the Knife" clicking her fingers, (of course!) And I was SO impressed with the Kevin Spacey movie about him I think he should've gotten an Oscar for that one.
Walter Cwiek - 2010-04-21 19:30:33
I remember watching Bobby on television. He was like a magnet...once you started watching him, you couldn't stop.
I will always remember Bobby as a great singer and entertainer. Bobby was and always will be a class act.

Jim Brehm - 2010-04-19 23:40:09
Bobby Darin’s life’s opus is as sweet and memorable as
"Dream Lover," his passion for music shines in "Beyond the Sea," his sense of fun and comedy explodes in "Splish, Splash," and finally he cuts to the chase with his version of "Mac the Knife." Loved the movie "Beyond the Sea" and Kevin Spacey’s rendition of Bobby’s work and life. Born in 1936 and gone in 1973, just too short a stay for such a talent. Bless his memory, celebrate his music, and enjoy his movies and songs life long, I will. I remember all his songs from the 50's on, and can still enjoy his part in "Captain Newman MD." Today he would have been in line for a heart transplant and better meds to prevent the valve failures. He doubled his expected life expectancy and remains a star that still shines.
Tbryan - 2010-04-19 16:27:37
Just watched "Beyond the Sea" with Kevin Spacey. I loved his music, grew up with it at my grandparents house. So, I looked him up, not knowing about his heart issues. Glad to have found this site and to know he has not been forgotten!

"Hands down" to one of the greatest entertainers of all time. I was first aware of Bobby when he was a young man appearing with the great Jimmy Durante. Jimmy held my attention because I was three years old at the time and I thought for a second "What's my Grandpa doing on TV and who's the kid with him?" A couple of years later, when I finally started figuring out Who's Who, it dawned on me that the young guy with Jimmy Durante was Bobby Darin. I guess you could say I became a fan then, and a fan to this day. I love Bobby and truly respect his talent. A few years ago I was delighted to buy a DVD of the Jimmy Durante/Bobby Darin show and it was exactly as I remembered.

Thanks for this website and keep it swingin'! Also congratulations for the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award...richly deserved!

--Best, KEVIN

I've read three books about Bobby, and in every one, it says he wasn't very good-looking. How untrue! Bobby was gorgeous!

But more importantly, Bobby's music makes him immortal; there will never be another golden voice like his again. God bless and keep you Bobby Darin.
Paul M Blake - 2010-04-15 20:33:36
"Darin at the Copa" to this day still defines the true meaning of the word "hip." His love of Bobby Kennedy as a friend shows his heart was in the right place too...the good do die young...

One of the best things that I always remembered, about Bobby Darin was his friendship with me. He was always friendly, and never was a struck-up like he could had been.

Bobby was always supportive towards, those born with a cleft palate or some other birth defect. He was understanding, as well, at all times! I miss ya Bobby, but many of us who knew you will never forget you!

Rest In Peace, Paul "Billy" Wolfe Carbondale, PA

*O* I grew up listening to and watching Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee movies along with the music. then never show it broke my heart when he died. I was very young but still remember where I was when it was announced that Bobby died. I am so happy that Bobby received the lifetime achievement award. I never saw Dodd before he is a beautiful man of course having Sandra Dee and Bobby as parents and the granddaughters as well great DNA. I loved Bobby as a little girl teenager years listened to him as a young wife and mother later as a widow (I too lost my husband at a young age from heart related problems) and now as a grandmother the lifetime achievement award is great but no one will forget Bobby Darin. I am glad I visited this site.

Me and my father just got done watching a Bobby Darin special from 1973 that my father ordered from the internet. As a 38 year old mom of two it saddens me that he left this world before he was even my age. He exuded life and the pure love of performing music. I am so thankful that his music will always live on. God blessed us all with Bobby Darin. Kyah

Bobby Darin was a one of a kind singer. He made our summers with his Splish Splash AND Beyond the Sea. I will always remember him. His music lives on. MY husband listens to the Malt Shop Oldies with me from the Dick Clark show -American Band Stand. He could sing anything - any kind of song. He was a unique person with Charisma. He had fans here in the U.S. that he never knew about. We never saw him in person but I WOULD have given any price to have seen him perform live. You fans out there who did actually saw him on the Dick Clark show were privilige people and probably didn't really appreciate that showing. I pray I see him in Heaven and I pray all who reads this are in Christ.

God Bless you all,

Bobby Darin - a shining light in the world of music.
No - THE shining light! He had everything - and Style with a capital S. Not even Sammy Davis Jr. would follow him on stage! The man was a genius - I was in love with him from the first time I saw and heard him. I still am! I loved The Curtain Falls and have encouraged local entertainers to learn and perform it - as long as they give him a mention! Keeping Bobby's memory and talent alive.

What a legacy to leave behind; four generations of Bobby fans!

Bobby Darin was the best and still is the best! He was the most dynamic, versatile and high-energy person to hit the stage. Would want to thank Mr. Darin for the joy he's given to us over 50 years through his music, shows and movies. Dodd Darin's tribute to his dad at the Grammys was magnificent. Toni

I LOVE THIS MAN. HE IS THE MOST TALENTED PERFORMER THAT I THINK EVER LIVED. HE MOVED HIS BODY AND WOMAN WOULD MELT. ME BEING 41 now AND the first time I was introduced to his music was on "Mack the Knife." I was 15 years old and I got up and danced and sung this song to my daughter’s father and he thought I was so wild. My admiration goes first to Sandra! I am from her hometown and now live there again. When I was about 11, she came to Bayonne and signed autographs at a local downstore. The line was about a mile long, and I was on it! Finally no more people were allowed inside. I never got in but that didn't matter. Just yesterday I finished reading Dodd's book (Dream Lovers) in 2 days. Couldn't put it down! What a fascinating story. Thank you, Dodd, for sharing all that with us. We loved your parents too! Still love to hear Bobby on the radio and watch the classic CDs! I like to think that they are still blooming in Heaven's garden. Fondly,

It is wonderful that Bobby was finally awarded the LAA. I do wish the Grammy audience had been treated to a video of his amazing talent. Bobby will always be the excellence in music which he represented. His kind of music will live forever.

From the time he stepped his polished shoe onto the Ed Sullivan stage ... I have 100% liked Bobby Darin. I liked his looks, the way he acted, and of course that wonderful voice. He was the coolest cat around. I have not changed my mind one iota ... he could do anything, and on top of that, he was a nice guy. I love his music.

Bobby and Sandra, a wonderful moment in time! I named my son Michael Darrin because I had such a crush on Bobby. Did not know till it was too late that I had spelled it wrong. DARN!

Dodd and Family,
I just watched you accept the Grammy award for your Father and I am still crying. What a wonderful talent he was and taken too soon, this award was long overdue but very deserved.

Dear Dodd,
I just watched your acceptance tribute to your father. I was brought to tears remembering through your words how wonderful brave, and talented he was, is, and will be forever. Keep the memory and pass it on to your beautiful, and loving children.
God Bless,

PS BTW you were born on my 17th birthday.

One of the Great Entertainers of our time! He is one of our great singers, dancers and composers in the same way Sinatra
was. He is still one of my favorites.

"Beyond the Sea" (La Mer) is by far the greatest and most meaningful song ever written and especially sung by the one and only Bobby Darin. It is real as your heartbeat and the tempo is right on the money. I salute Bobby Darin and his music, his flair, dance, and capacity to grab an audience forever!

Aqui no Brasil tambem se ouve Bobby Darin. N㯠existe nada que substitua o talento de um grande homem, gꮩo, alquimista da melodia. Para n󳠳empre serᠥterno.

Bobby Darin's style has never been, nor will it ever be, matched...he could put over any type of song and had such charisma.....and anyone who ever heard him do Vegas
....could tell that he loved what he did and loved the audience and they loved him...what he left us with (although way too soon)...was the gift of his talent...his voice.......... Sue Kelley

I knew Bobby as a kid. I stayed the summers with my grandmother at Lake Hiawatha where he lived with Nina, Vanna, Vivi & Gary. I went to the house many times with one of the sisters on Dakota Ave. We used to go to the pool together. Bobby gave me cards with his picture on each one for my birthday. My sister threw them in the tube because she didn't get any. He was appearing at the Copa Cabana in New York. He did a show at the State theather in Jersey City, New Jersey, asked to see me after the show. He gave me an autographed pictue & a kiss, I turned and fell down the stairs!! Bobby helped me up. I just loved him. He was the best performa this world will ever hear. Dear Bobby, I will miss you & your wonderful voice. RIP

He's been a part of my life since I was eight years old. Hard to believe it's been over 50 years. Wish he were here to receive his third Grammy, but I know the son he loves so dearly will do him proud. Go get em Dodd, your Pop loves you now and forever.
